Inspired by... Elizabeth Clements

Elizabeth Clements has been steadily growing her reputation as one of the most exciting illustrators working in the UK. Producing images from her Brighton flat, her impressive work has featured in the pages of Kerrang!, The Guardian, and The Metro as well as selling her eye-catching prints on her website linked below. She now currently works as a tattoo artist at Blue Dragon Tattoo Studio in Brighton.

Elizabeth states in an article from Home Protect UK:

“Well, I grew up in a house in Coventry that had a lot of Victorian and Edwardian art on the walls. This seems to have rubbed off on me a bit and I'm inspired by a lot of classical painters; Pre-Raphaelite and Art Nouveau portraiture. I like to use the same sort of symbolism but give it a more contemporary aesthetic.”

Madonna

She has been influenced by Art Nouveau and it is shown in many, if not all, her work. From her first work, shown in the image attachments, she has shown how she has maintained her art style through to one of her most recent works, Madonna. One of my favourite works is Frida which is an illustrated piece of Frida Kahlo that also has taken some elements of Art Nouveau. I like this because she mixes modern tattoos and fashion styles in her work along with keeping Fridas 'look'.

Elizabeth's work is very special to me since it has been an inspiration of mine since childhood. I am hoping to buy some artwork from her one day as well as have a tattoo comissioned from her.
